「全米オープン」（8月28日〜9月10日／アメリカ・ニューヨーク／ハードコート）の男子シングルス1回戦で、杉田祐一（三菱電機）がジョーフレ・ブランカノー（フランス）と対戦。昨日の雨により途中中断、今日に繰り越すも、集中力を切らさず終始相手を圧倒。6-2、6-2、6-0で、ストレート勝利となった。（テニスデイリー／ワウコム）
