Netflixは2021年11月から加入者向けにスマートフォンやタブレットなどでゲームを遊べるサービスの提供を行っています。

Netflixはさらに、ゲーム配信サービスをクラウドゲームに拡大する意向を見せており、2022年10月には南カリフォルニアに新ゲームスタジオを開設したことが報じられていました。

そんな中、Netflixは2023年8月9日に「Netflix Game Controller」と呼ばれるアプリをリリースしました。記事作成時点で「Netflix Game Controller」はiOS版だけが配信されています。



Netflixによると、「Netflix Game Controller」をテレビとペアリングすることで、スマートフォンまたはその他のモバイルデバイスをコントローラーに見立ててNetflixでゲームをプレイできるとのこと。



「Netflix Game Controller」を開くと「To begin, choose a game on your TV and follow the directions to connect. (始めるには、テレビでゲームを選択し、指示に従って接続してください)」と表示されます。また、アプリ上には「Netflix Games on TV are in beta. Some devices may not be supported at this time.(Netflix Games on TVはベータ版です。一部のデバイスはサポートされていません)」との注意書きもあります。



Netflixが配信しているゲームには、カードゲームやレースゲームなど多様な種類が存在しますが、記事作成時点ではテレビでプレイできるゲームはリリースされておらず、スマホをコントローラーとして遊ぶことは不可能です。「Netflix Game Controller」のApp Storeの紹介ページには「近日公開予定」と記載されています。

Netflixは、「Netflix Game Controller」や「Netflix Games on TV」の計画や詳細についてコメントを残していません。また、Android版「Netflix Game Controller」のリリースについても未定です。
