番組ナビゲーターであり、俳優・アーティストとしても活躍中の森崎ウィンさんがテキストで連載中の「To You, From WIN」より、その英語版を公開します。

What are your memories of summer vacation?

　Hi there! It’s Morisaki Win. Summer vacation season is here!

　When I think of summer vacation, I remember a summer before I made my debut. I was in my second year of middle school, and I spent nine days training as a monk in Myanmar, where I was born. I was already living in Japan at the time, but my grandmother asked me to come back for a little while, so I went. Since Myanmar is a Buddhist country, it’s actually very common for young people to spend a short time training at a temple. During my training, I woke up at 3:00 in the morning, went out to collect offerings, served food to people in town, and meditated. Getting up that early was hard, but oversleeping meant no breakfast―so I pushed myself to wake up! There were also plenty of free hours, though. Honestly, I had a lot of time on my hands! When I got back to Japan for the start of school, I remember everyone being surprised to see me with a shaved head.

　At the temple in Myanmar, an older monk who was taking care of me read my palm. He told me, “You’re going to do work that puts you in front of people.” I was playing soccer at the time, so I got excited and thought, “Maybe I’ll get picked for Japan’s national team!” But after I came back to Japan, I was scouted by a talent agency―and here I am today. Believe it or not, things like that really do happen!

森崎ウィン（もりさき・うぃん）
俳優・アーティスト。ミャンマーで生まれ、小学4年生で来日。2018年スティーヴン・スピルバーグ監督映画『レディ・プレイヤー1』で主要キャストとしてハリウッドデビュー。20年『蜜蜂と遠雷』で第43回日本アカデミー賞新人俳優賞。24年監督、出演をつとめた『せん』が「ショートショート フィルムフェスティバル &アジア 2024」でグランプリである「ジョージ・ルーカス アワード」を受賞。ミュージカルの世界でも25年『ウェイトレス』に出演するなど活躍中。アーティストとしては“MORISAKI WIN”名義で20年にメジャーデビュー。母国ミャンマーでも観光大使を務め圧倒的な知名度を誇る。

英訳：Tom Kain（トム・ケイン）
日英翻訳家。アメリカ・ミネソタ州出身。2005年に来日し、現在はNHK「ニュースで学ぶ現代英語」に出演中。
