現地時間の7月6日（土）に行われた、ヘンリー王子＆メーガン妃の第1子アーチーの洗礼式。夫妻の意向から一般公開はされず、ごく内輪なものであったようで、招待されたのはわずか25人ほどとされ、そのすべてが親戚や身近な友人たちだった。

だが、1人だけそうではない人物がいた。プライベートなこのイベントでは、メディア関係者たちは報道や撮影を許されなかったが、ヘンリー＆メーガン夫妻はひとりのフォトグラファーにだけ、大切な日の記録係をお願いした。その名はクリス・アラートン。

式の後、ヘンリー＆メーガン夫妻は、クリスが撮影した写真のうち2枚をシェア。ひとつは、ウィンザー城のバラ園で生後2カ月のアーチーを抱く優しげな夫妻の姿をとらえたもの（下）と、グリーンの調度品が美しい客間で撮影されたポートレート（上）だ。

写真に添えられたバッキンガム宮殿からのコメントには、「王子と妃は、この日の幸せをシェアできることに大変喜んでおり、世界中のみなさんからのサポートに感謝なさっています」「家族やアーチーのゴッドペアレンツとともに、この特別な瞬間を楽しむことができたことを、とても幸運だとも感じています」と添えられていた。

そしてクリスも、撮影についての思いをこのようにシェアしている。

「アーチー・ハリソン・マウントバッテン＝ウィンザーの洗礼式でオフィシャル写真を撮影させていただけたこと、また、サセックス公爵と公爵夫人にとって非常にスペシャルで喜ばしい出来事の一部となれたことを、大変光栄に思います」

実は、夫妻の人生における重要な瞬間を写真に収めたのは、クリスにとって今回が初めてというわけではない。クリスは2人のウエディングのプライベート写真も撮影を担当しており、そのうち1枚は夫妻の2018年のクリスマスカードに使われ、数枚は結婚1周年のアニバーサリーのタイミングで使われた。
