イタリアの都市ヴェネツィアは、街中を縦横に走る運河があることから「水の都」と呼ばれることがあります。そんな水の都ヴェネツィアの運河に面したホテルに、イタリアの芸術家ロレンソ・クイン氏が彫刻した2本の巨大な腕を模した石像「Support」が設置され、水中からホテルを支えるという不思議な光景が見られるようになりました。

ヴェネツィアの運河から出現した2本の巨大な白い腕「Support」はこんな感じ。この腕が支えている建物は、文化的名所にもなっているという14世紀のビサンティンとゴシックの混成様式の建物「Ca' Sagredo Hotel」です。



Ca' Sagredo Hotelは、Googleマップで見ると以下の場所に位置しています。

ヴェネツィアの街については地球温暖化による水位上昇ペースが変わらなければ、1世紀以内に完全に水没してしまうという最新の気象変動報告が出ています。クイン氏の作品はそんなヴェネツィアに迫る危機を象徴したもので、ホテルが運河に沈むことを防いでいる光景を示しています。また、水面から伸びる腕の存在によって、水位の上昇を視覚的に理解することもできるとのこと。

A big thank you to all for your comments and likes. It's been overwhelming. I wish I could thank each and everyone of you individually. I hope my art brings a new focus of attention to a global calamity that we are faced with. 設置は「クレーンで引き上げた作品を船に乗った作業チームが調整する」というやり方で行われた模様。作業は朝8時から夜遅くまでかかったとのこと。なお、「Support」はヴェネツィアを訪れれば誰でも見られる状態になっており、2017年11月26日までの期間限定展示となっています。
