大学を卒業後、フルタイムでの仕事を探している間のビジネスとして、自分で仕入れたヴィンテージデニムをアプリで販売していたケスラーさん。ジーンズを作る過程で大量の水が使用されていると知り、ヴィンテージデニムをはいてもらうことでサステナブルな取り組みにつながるのではないかと考えたという。

Hi! Just checking in 💙 How are you doing? I want to re-introduce myself, but before I do, I have to be honest... I’M EXHAUSTED 😅 The last bits of my energy are being used to write this post, but I’ve been a little too quiet lately and wanted to reconnect! If you’re new here, hello! Welcome 😊 I’m Kessler (@kesslerramirez). I am a 25-year-old artist from California who has been painting/drawing for many years, but started painting on denim in 2017. I recently started working full-time for a tech company at Facebook! I absolutely love it and am so fortunate to still be able to work full-time during this pandemic. I have 2 cats and a few dozen plants 😄🌱🐱 This time of being socially distant has been my usual lifestyle-I love to be home and isolate away from people with my cats! But on the other hand... I also LOVE to travel. If I’m not home, I’m probably traveling! Obviously I’m not able to travel right now, but my destination list is still piling up! ✈️

実は、小さなころから絵を描くことが大好きだったというケスラーさん。あるときデニムに絵を描くアーティストを見つけ、彼らに触発されたそう。そこから、美術史に残る名画をデニムのポケットを描くことに挑戦。2017年からは、そのデニムを販売することにしたのだとか！

You can sign up in my story highlights. - I saw this portrait in Paris last year and it was swarmmmmeeddd with people taking photos with cameras, phones, IPADS (lol). It was for good reason! It’s a great portrait. - There’s something about Van Gogh’s style that transcends time - it never looks old or outdated. 毎回パブリックドメインで利用できる作品から、ポケットに合うものをピックアップして制作。まずはポケット部分を白く塗ってキャンバスを作り、そこからボールペンで下書き、最後にペイントしていく…という細かい作業の連続で、1つの作品を作るのに最大で30時間かかることも！

While I’ve been loud about the racial injustices in my country over on @kesslerramirez, I’ve been trying to find the words to share with you all here. This platform is larger than my other one and I wanted to get it right. I didn’t want my words to be empty or to come off as tone deaf. これまで、様々な名画からインスピレーションを受けて作品を制作してきた中でも、お気に入りはゴッホとモネ。ふたりの絵はデニムとの相性もいいとケスラーさんは語る。また、リスペクトしながらこうして作品を作ることで、フォロワーやファンに美術のすばらしさを知ってもらいたいという願いもあるのだとか。
